Water is worth more than gold on a dying Montana range, and the Ballards control the last dependable spring.

After three years studying back East, Dan Ballard returns to the Hourglass Ranch expecting to marry his childhood sweetheart and help build a prosperous future. Instead, he finds cattle starving, his brother near breaking, and the powerful Cantrell clan demanding control of Ballard Springs. Their ultimatum is simple: surrender the water or face a range war.

Dan came home believing the old West was giving way to reason and progress. But a cold-eyed gunman determined to provoke him, a courageous young woman risking everything for the wrong man, and a hidden scheme to seize the Ballard land force him back into the saddle.
