Emery Buxton

Emery Buxton is a pseudonym for Howard M. Federspiel. The original Emery Buxton, a great grandfather of Howard, was the son of a pioneer in southern Erie County, New York in the late 1890's who established a family homestead there. Howard was born and spent the first years of his life on that family farm.

Howard Federspiel is a retired Professor of Political Science, who taught at a number of universities including McGill University in Montreal, Canada and the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Earlier he served as an Intelligence analyst in the U.S. Army and later worked in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the U.S. Department of State. Much of the material for these two novels is based on his own experience and the experiences of colleagues he met in the US Army and at the State Department. As a scholar he has been a prolific writer, authoring twelve books and fifty professional articles. This is his second foray into historical fiction.

He currently lives in Athens, Ohio near the home of his son’s family where he regularly attends the basketball games of his granddaughter, Kesi.
